From 1998 to 1999, Okany Oguejiofor served as the Igbo Union Finland's secretary. In Finland, the Union is a legally recognised non-governmental cultural organisation. All IGBO natives residing in Finland are eligible to join the Igbo Union Finland. Our membership is made up of both Igbo citizens of Nigeria who reside in Finland and anyone who are interested in learning about and identifying with the Igbo culture. The union has 205 active members and has participated in cultural events for the past fifteen years. These events were created to provide union members a sense of belonging in a culture where they are a minority.
